Weekend Catchup | Berries & Icing Flowers

Happy Monday Everyone!

I thought this blog could use a bit of continuity with the posts, so I decided every Monday (or late Sunday) I will dedicate a post to what I got up to during the weekend. This weekend I really didn't do that much. However, I do have some pretty photos to share with you all.

Saturday

During the Summer, my parents will often find themselves at the farmer's market very early on a Saturday morning. This past Saturday they came home with the tastiest, fresh bread and lots of berries for me to bake with.

With these berries my mother and I made a Berry Galette. Unfortunately, I didn't take any pictures of this, but it was really delicious served warm with a scoop of ice cream. If I do make it again (which I fully intend to do), I will definitely get some pictures to share and post the recipe.

Ontario Strawberries - So sweet! Much better than the strawberries I get at the grocery store!

Golden Raspberries - I've never seen these before! The colour is a little... weird, but they taste really nice! Not like regular raspberries!

Tayberries - A cross between the red raspberry and the blackberry! So tasty!

Sunday

Currently, I'm attending Confectionary Arts school on a part-time basis, every Sunday. I'm partaking in a decorating course and yesterday we worked on making flowers using icing and meringue. It took a lot of practice, but I think I managed to decorate some cupcakes pretty well!

I really don't remember which flower this was meant to be and I think it pales in comparison to the sunflower and rose. However, I do think it still looks quite pretty!

The sunflower is so cute! For the centre of the flower I used crispy, chocolate balls. I think a whole tray of sunflower cupcakes would be so cute for a party - they're so bright and sunny!

How pretty is the rose cupcake? It is definitely my favourite out of the bunch.

What did you guys get up to this weekend?

    1. They are SO tasty! I had never heard of the other berries either, my mom just thought they looked cool and brought them home - equally as tasty as the strawberries!

  6. The cupcakes are really pretty, the rose and the sunflouwer are my favourites! I actually never ate a cupcake (ouch, I know, shame on me, I'm not of this world!) because I always think the cake is too dry (but how could I know if I never tried one before, right?). But I love cupcakes for the artwork, there are some really lovely creations. The ones you made are really beautiful!

You have such a lovely blog with such interesting posts. You found yourself a new follower here!

    1. Thank you so much! You've really got to try some cupcakes! It's quite off putting when you get a dry cupcake but when they're nice and light and moist... SO delicious!!
